Mathematical Exploration Instructors
Dr. Zhisheng Shuai is a tenured associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Central Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alberta and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Victoria, supported by NSERC, focusing on mathematical epidemiology. His research focuses on differential equations, dynamical systems, and mathematical biology. Dr. Shuai has played a significant role in UCF’s Mathematical Modeling curriculum and has led efforts to recruit and train UCF teams, resulting in impressive ranking in various math modeling competitions. He has been honored with the UCF Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) award for his outstanding teaching.
Dr. Laura Yang is a lecturer and had served as an advisor for the undergraduate program in the Department of Mathematics at UCF. She has previously received her PhD in Mathematics, with a focus on Combinatorics, from Nankai University. Dr. Yang currently leads the UCF Math Knights training program, an initiative aimed at empowering high school students to excel in math competitions and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
